Desdemona: A Play About A Handkerchief
Project type
Costume dsign project
Date
April 2025
Location
Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre
Written by Paula Vogel, it is an adaptation of Shakespeare's play Othello. The three female characters in the play, Desdemona, Emilia and Bianca, are three very vivid characters. So I want my design to emphasise their personalities. Since the concept settled for this production is a rock concert. I involved some rock and punk elements in my design. I designed each of them some metal and vinyl accessories. For Desdemona, I designed her a white babydoll-shaped plastic gown to represent her superior social status and make her stand out. Her inner garment follows a blue colour palette. For Emilia, since she is the servant, her costume is in the style of a uniform. I designed her a red colour palette costume. She has a representative plastic apron. For Bianca, her costume follows the yellow colour palette. Her costume looks like a collage of a man's shirt and other men's accessories that she collects from her clients.
