Costume design for Cabaret

The Kit Kat Klub gathered a group of dancers and singers. I am not sure if they enjoy their job and their identities in the workplace or if they were forced to work here for a living. Every night they stand on the stage and are introduced by the Emcee in a vulgar manner. And give obscene performances to please the audience. For me, these people have given up their subjectivity and are viewed as objects. It reminds me of animals in the zoo or in the circus. Hence, I decided to involve some animal elements for every costume inside the Kit Kat Klub and ideally choose an animal to represent each character in the Kit Kat Klub.

During that time in Berlin, the social environment was chaotic. Drug use, prostitution any awful things you can think of happened here. The Cabaret could be a place where these events commonly happen. I want to build the Kit Kat Klub into an extravagant place. It should look glamorous from the outside, this should reflect on the costume. I might use glitter, sequence, and beading to show that sense. However, the color palette should be gray, with low saturation to show the darkness.
